The Autonomous University of Madrid Background and History

The Autonomous University of Madrid is a Spanish public university which was established in the year 1968 and is located in Spain. It is located in northern Madrid; its main campus, Cantoblanco, is located near the cities of Alcobendas, San Sebastián de Los Reyes, and Tres Cantos. The university has been one of Spain's most prominent higher education institutions and has been ranked first amongst Spanish universities.

The Autonomous University of Madrid Programs Courses and Schools

The Autonomous University of Madrid has the following seven faculties; Faculty of Science, Faculty of Economics and Business, Law School, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, School of Medicine, and the Faculty of Psychology. The university offers fully recognized Spanish undergraduate degrees and also offers courses in languages other than Spanish. The university also has a Higher Polytechnic School, a Doctoral School, and five University Schools attached such as; Higher Center for University Studies La Salle, Nursing of the Red Cross, Nursing of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, and Physiotherapy of ONCE. The university also provides different summer courses to all the students. 

The Autonomous University of Madrid has more than 46,224 students which include 21,203 Undergraduate students, 6,701 Graduate students, and 3,818 Doctoral students.

The Autonomous University of Madrid provides scholarships opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. The Autonomous University of Madrid has an active student body, having organized one of Spain's most important events against the dictatorship in 1976 called the Iberian Peoples Festival. It had an attendance of over 70,000. UAM has over a hundred student societies covering activities ranging from student unionism to theatre and music. The university also offers different activities like Music of the UAM, Orchestra, and Choir of the UAM OCUAM, Theater, Reading and writing workshop, and many more. The university also comprises two museums; Mineralogy Museum and the Museum of the Higher Polytechnic School.
