Norwegian University of Life Sciences History

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences also known as NMBU is a university located in As, Akershus, Norway. The university was founded as Norwegian Agricultural Postgraduate College in 1859 subsequently turned into a university college in 1897. It was conferred university status in 2005 and then merged with Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in Oslo.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences comprises of seven faculties offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level programs in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Food Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biosciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Landscape and Society, Economics, Business, and Science and Technology.

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences also comprises of many research centres such as Centre for Plant Research in Controlled Climate, Centre for Continuing Education, Aquaculture Protein Centre, Animal Production Experimental Centre, Centre for Integrative Genetics, and Norwegian Centre for Bio-energy Research which caters to the research community.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences comprises of two campuses in As, Akershus and Adamstuen, Oslo in Norway. The university campus houses the faculties, research centres, and administrative buildings in addition to numerous leisure, recreational, and study facilities.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences’ campus in As houses many historical buildings and boasts of Norway’s most beautiful park. The campus is spread over 600 hectares and comprises of a Farm and six faculties. The campus in Oslo houses the Veterinary Studies Faculty only.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences is ranked as one of the top 600 universities in the world by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings in 2020. Times league table also ranks the university in top 300 universities in the world for Life Sciences in 2019.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences is ranked 14th in the QS World University Rankings for Agriculture and Forestry subjects. The university is regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the country.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences USP

Norwegian University of Life Sciences is the only university in Norway to offer Veterinary Medicine program, therefore, the acceptance rate of the program is low and admission is highly competitive. The fee and living costs are however affordable.

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences also offers study abroad and student exchange programs under the ERASMUS and Erasmus+ programs. The university also actively strives to be sustainable through many of its Electric Cars.
