University of Alcala History

The University of Alcala also known as Universidad de Alcala is a Spanish university located in Alcala de Henares. The university was established in 1293 as Studium Generale and eventually re-established in 1977. Presently, the university enrolls 28,000+ students and teaching staff of over 2600.

The University of Alcala has 24 departments offering a wide range of subjects such as Hispanic Studies, History, Modern Languages Applied to Translation, Health Biology, Medicine, Basics of Architecture and Town Planning, Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, Communications Electronic Engineering, Accounting and Finance, and Tourism and Business Administration and Management.

The University of Alcala also offers undergraduate and graduate programs which are partially bilingual in Electronics and Industrial Automation Engineering, Business Administration and Management, Social Education, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Nursing, Computer Science, and Telematics Engineering.

The University of Alcala has three campuses – Historical Campus, Science and Technology Campus, and Guadalajara Campus. The historical campus comprises of administration buildings, the Faculties of Philosophy and Arts, Law, Economics and Business, Documentation, and Architecture in addition to leisure, recreational, and shopping facilities.

University of Alcala’s other campuses house faculties of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy, and student halls of residence. The university library offers digital and print resources in the form of books, periodicals, journals, and special collections.
