University of Brasilia History
The University of Brasilia also known as UnB or Universidade de Brasilia is a federal public university located in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia. The university was established in 1962 by anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro and Educator Anisio Teixeira. Presently, the university enrolls over 35,000 students and employs 5000+ staff.

The University of Brasilia offers 61 undergraduate programs, 56 master’s degrees, and 31 doctoral level programs as well as advanced non-degree programs in other locations in Brazil such as Bahia, Goias, Rio Grande do Norte, and Amazonas. The university is renowned for its programs in International Affairs, Law, Anthropology, Political Science, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Economics.
The University of Brasilia also offers the number of distance education programs through Center for Open, Continuous and Long Distance Education (CEAD) and the School of Education with many of these programs sponsored by UNESCO.

The University of Brasilia has its primary campus located in Brasilia Administrative Region in Brazil. The university campus is located on the north-western banks of Lake Paranoa which provides students with space to relax and unwind. The buildings follow the modernist style of architecture and house student spaces and administrative offices.
The University of Brasilia also has an on-campus restaurant, farm, extensive sporting facilities, and numerous leisure services. The university’s Central Library houses the largest archive in the Center Western part of Brazil and offers access to the number of digital and print resources.

The University of Brasilia is ranked amongst top 5 Brazilian universities and top 20 universities in South America by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Editora Abril’s magazine Guia do Estudante ranks the university top 5 in Brazil.
University of Brasilia’s programs in Anthropology, Geology, Economics, Mathematics, and Law are graded 6 out of 7 by CAPES Assessment. The university’s programs in Economics, Political Science, and International Relations ranks 1st in the country by CAPES.

University of Brasilia students is offered numerous scholarships and grants to assist with tuition fee and living costs by many government agencies such as The Technological and Scientific Development National Council and Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel. The United Nations Educational, Social and Cultural Organization or UNESCO also sponsors the distance education programs at the university.
The University of Brasilia is a highly selective institution and has a low acceptance rate. Each year the university only accepts 2000 student via Vestibular tests, making the admission process highly competitive.
